South Park Bandstand in Macclesfield is to see the return of regular Sunday afternoon concerts this summer, thanks to the commitment of local bands and a helping hand from the British Federation of Brass Bands in the form of a 'Progressive Band' Award.
Back to life
Macclesfield bands and musical organisations have got together to bring the bandstand back to life so that the local community can enjoy what is a really lovely setting in Macclesfield’s largest park.
And, what a musical treat it promises to be.
I hope that people will get into the habit of bringing a chair down to South Park on a Sunday afternoon to support the bands and enjoy their musicLouise Renshaw
Concerts
All the concerts are from 2pm – 4pm and the series opens with Macclesfield’s Silk Brass on Sunday 13th June followed by KEMS Concert Band on 20th June.
A special ‘Beginners on the Bandstand’ concert will provide an opportunity for less experienced musicians to entertain on 27th June.
Poynton Vernon Building Society Band will pay a welcome visit on 4th July followed by the Macclesfield Youth and Junior Bands in concert on 18th July.
Wonderful setting
The concerts have been co-ordinated by Macclesfield Youth Brass, whose MD Louise Renshaw told 4BR: "It’s a shame that Macclesfield people have been travelling to other bandstands in Buxton, Congleton and Stockport to hear our bands play when we have such a wonderful setting in our own South Park.2
Get into the habit
Louise added: "I hope that people will get into the habit of bringing a chair down to South Park on a Sunday afternoon to support the bands and enjoy their music."
