Roy Sparkes, the adjudicator for the annual scaba Entertainment Contest held on Sunday 16th May at The Hawth, Crawley, said he was absolutely delighted with the programmes presented to him by the competing bands.
Cracking playing
He went on to say that he had listened to some ‘cracking playing and excellent soloists’ and commented on the bands’ choice of programmes, saying that they were well thought out.
Band of the moment
Friary Guildford under the direction of Chris King is certainly the band of the moment in the south.
Having been at Blackpool on Saturday playing in the Senior Trophy where they came fourth and qualified for the Senior Cup in 2011, they were on stage again in the late afternoon and impressed another adjudicator who made them clear winners by five points.
It was one heck of a weekend, but a very rewarding one – well worth all the practice and effortTim Gregory, Friary Guildford.
Super show
At Blackpool, adjudicators Dr Robert Childs and Richard Marshall commented wrote that they had produced 'A super show' and 'A strong performance from a strong band,' and that was very much the same in Crawley as they stamped their class to win the title in fine style.
Band Chairman Tim Gregory, told 4BR: "It was one heck of a weekend, but a very rewarding one – well worth all the practice and effort."
