To say that brass bands are flourishing in the Island is a real understatement.
Spectacular
Last weekend Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band entertained Bactiguard Wire Brass for a weekend of workshops for local brass players and a spectacular concert programme. To add to the interest and success, the guest soloist was Glyn Williams, principal euphonium of Fodens Band.
While this was going on, four youngsters from the Island were taking part in the Easter course of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Winnie Wood, Meghan Quane and Illiam Quane from Ramsey Town Band and Bobby Corkish of Rushen Silver all enjoyed the experience.
Talented group
On Thursday and Friday of last week, Quintabile, a talented group of young brass players from the Guildhall School of Music, gave concerts in Peel and Ramsey.
A member of this group was Sam Kinrade, formerly principal cornet with Ramsey Town and a former member of NYBBGB and now studying trumpet at the Guildhall.
Yes, it’s all happening and next weekend we have the brass classes of the Manx Music Festival, culminating in Brass Band Night on Sunday April 25th. But that’s news for another programme.
