The organisers of the forthcoming Cardiff New Brass Festival has announced the inclusion of two world class soloists to its programme of new music.
Premiere
Trombonist Jonathan Pippen will showcase his talents with the world premier of a brand new work for trombone and brass quintet by Peter Meechan.
Currently performing with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, Jonathan's varied career has seen him perform as principal trombone with some of Britain’s finest orchestras and brass bands, although it is his work as principal trombone with Portugal’s contemporary ensemble 'Remix' that makes this particular premiere so intriguing.

Welsh tuba
Joining Jonathan on the solo stage will be tuba player Oliver Browne, who is currently a student at London's Royal College of Music, where his freelance CV already contains the names of ensembles such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and the Southbank Sinfonia.
As a proud Welshman Oliver has a particular interest in the music of composer Mervyn Burtch and together with Chris Williams will present his version of his rarely performed 'Sonatina for Tuba and Piano'.
Cardiff date
Alongside the BTM Band, Wormshead Brass Ensemble and Cardiff University Brass Band the Cardiff New Brass Festival will take place on Friday 23rd April at Cardiff University Concert Hall.
