Unity breaks out at Oddfellows

The newly reformed Unity Brass held its first rehearsal this week with a view to return to the contesting scene.

The newly reformed Unity Brass Band (Oddfellows B Band) held its first rehearsal this week following discussion with the members and conductor of Oddfellows Brass.

Using old name

The band is using the former name of Oddfellows Brass and is rehearsing in the same bandroom and using facilities of the senior band which is based in Markfield just off the A50.

The band is conducted by Kevin Moxon and had over 18 members turn up for the first night back, with helpers from the senior band on hand to give individual instruction and instruments to the newcomers.

Our aim is to get the band up and running and to be a feeder unit for the senior band and encourage and promote youth activity in brass bands and music making for the futureMD, Kevin Moxon

Ambition

Kevin told 4BR: "Everyone enjoyed the evening and after discussion the band wanted to help Kevin with his ambition to take the band to the Hardraw Scar contest in September and to register the band and enter for the Fourth Section Regional Championships next March.

Fortunate

The new band is fortunate to be able to use the surplus instruments from senior band and use its library facilities for music etc.

"We can offer personal tuition to players and supply an instrument if required," Kevin added. "Our aim is to get the band up and running and to be a feeder unit for the senior band and encourage and promote youth activity in brass bands and music making for the future."
