Morley announces June date

The Morley March & Hymn Tune Contest will be held in June this year.

The 4th Morley March & Hymn Tune Contest will be held on Sunday 20th June this year.

The provisional start time is 1.30pm and the contest is open to all bands from Youth to Championship Section.

Own choice

All music is own choice and whilst there are no formal rules it is expected that bands will enter into the spirit of the contest and field their own regular players wherever possible. All proceeds from this event are for Lions Charities

The total prize fund has been increased to £1,600 and contains of first prize of £500 for the overall winner4BR

Format

The format of the contest is a traditional road march along the pedestrianised Queen Street before bands reassemble in the band arena outside the Town Hall and complete its programme with three verses of a hymn tune and a contest march. Two adjudicators will judge music played in the band arena.

In the event of inclement weather the contest will be held in the Alexander Hall in the Morley Town Hall, minus the marching element of course.

Geoff Fowler told 4BR: "The contest has established itself as a prestigious event in Morley and we have the full support of the Mayor, the Morley Town Council and the Morley Entertainments Committee."
