Following high profile solo appearances in Italy and Belgium, David Childs recently returned to Swansea to perform as guest soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Premiere

Last month David premiered the brass band version of Karl Jenkins' 'Concerto for Euphonium' during Cory's Jubilee Reunion Concert in Swansea's Brangwyn Hall, and on Saturday night he performed the work once more, although this time with symphony orchestra accompaniment.

The concert entitled 'Winter Celebrations' was conducted by Grant Llewellyn, and featured the music of Sibelius, Mathias, and of course Karl Jenkins.

It's been a bit hectic of late, but a local concert in Swansea was a nice way to round off the yearDavid Childs

Excited

David told 4BR: "I was really excited about the concert and particularly enjoyed playing for Grant Llewellyn again. He directed my Royal Albert Hall performance of Alun Hoddinott's 'Concerto for Euphonium', and conducted my appearance at the BBC Proms in the Park. He's a great guy and an extremely talented musician."

Solo performances

During 2009 David has given solo performances all over the world with debuts in Hawaii, Los Angeles and most recently in Rome. He's toured throughout Europe and just a few days ago was in Belgium performing with the St. Cecilia Wind Orchestra.

Highlights

Highlights have included performances with Sinfonia Cymru, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Philharmonia, and the US Pacific Marine Band.

David added: "It's been a bit hectic of late, but a local concert in Swansea was a nice way to round off the year."
