The Cobham Band under the direction of David Ruel recently presented a 'Trick or Treat' concert with Ian Porthouse’s IP Brass in their home village.
Great and good
The great and good of the area including local MP Ian Taylor, Mayor James Vickers, the Band’s Presidents, Ian Carter, Secretary of scaba and Nicolas Chisholm, Headmaster of famous Yehudi Menuhin School were all in the audience to enjoy some quality seasonal playing.
Super Sykes
Performing with IP Brass was Stephen Sykes, BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Musician for 2009 and the star trombonist really wowed everyone with his fantastic playing.
The evening’s concert was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with massed band items such as 'Hymn to the Fallen' and 'Arnhem' in the first half and in the second half, 'Jurassic Park', 'Procession to the Minster' and the encore 'True and Trusty'.

Invite
This concert marks the third time Cobham has performed alongside IP Brass and the fourth time that they have been delighted to receive an invitation to give its Autumn concert at Menuhin Hall.
Long service
Ian Carter of scaba presented three members, Joe Smith, Bryan Haynes and Tony Ranger with certificates in recognition of 60 years service to the banding movement, whilst David Ruel presented Bryan and Tony with silver salvers on behalf of Cobham Band in appreciation and recognition of 60 years continual service.
Both Bryan and Tony joined the band on the same day in 1949. Bryan is the great-nephew of two founding members and his father played with the band for over 50 years up until his death, as did Tony’s father who played for 72 years.
An evening of awards and presentations was brought to a close with Simon Bristow, the Band’s Contest Secretary receiving the award for Bandsman of the Year 2009.
