Memories of Wilfred Heaton?

Paul Hindmarsh is researching the life and works of the great Wifred Heaton — and needs a bit of help.

Heaton

Paul Hindmarsh is currently researching the life and work of Wilfred Heaton.

Private man

Interviews with family, friends, former students and former colleagues has revealed much about the man – his complexity, his spirituality – and his music. However, he is aware that there is much still to find out about this very private man.

Get in touch

Paul is therefore asking if anyone has a story about Wilfred to get in touch with him.

Paul told 4BR: "Did you ever meet the great man – he was always an attentive listener and loved talking about music? Did you ever contact him about his work – he may have given you some of his trenchant advice?

"Did he ever repair your instrument? Were you ever a pupil of his? Did you ever play for him – he was a busy conductor of orchestras in Sheffield, Leeds and Harrogate and of course Black Dyke Mills Band?"

Paul is also searching for a number of lost works, both choral and band. For example, there may be a march lurking in a bandroom somewhere in Norway or Sweden4BR

Any information would be most welcome.
