David Childs has just performed the Karl Jenkins 'Euphonium Concerto' for the first time with wind band in Hawaii.
Busy
David told 4BR: "It's a real busy time for me at the moment with a variety of engagements including concerts with wind band, orchestra, brass band and piano."
Following their British Open victory Cory's solo euphonium stayed in Birmingham just about long enough to play with the band in their Sunday Gala Concert, before he headed straight to Heathrow for a flight to Honolulu.
It's an unusually busy period for me and it doesn't look like calming down much before Christmas!David Childs
Hawaii
Whilst in Hawaii David worked with musicians from the US Pacific Marine Band giving a series of clinics, workshops, individual lessons and appearing as their guest soloist for the wind band premiere of Karl Jenkins' 'Euphonium Concerto'.
Staff Seargent Stephen Davis from the US Pacific Marine Band told 4BR: "David's presence had a great impact on the band. His teaching expertise brought immediate results and his performances were phenomenal. David a real hit with both the Marines and our audiences."
Sage
Once back on UK soil this week, he'll have just enough time to shake off any jet-lag before a Thursday morning rehearsal with London's Philharmonia Orchestra. From London its back to Wales in time for a concert with Cory at Abertillery later that same evening!
Friday will then see him journey up north to perform as part of the brass section for Janacek's 'Sinfonietta' at The Sage Gateshead, before performing as a guest soloist on Saturday night with the EYMS Band during their 20th Anniversary Concert in Hull.
Harrogate
From there its over to Harrogate to perform two solo spots with pianist John Wilson at the Lower Section Finals, before its back to Cardiff for a recording with Cory of 'Titan's Progress'.
A cup of tea later and then its a night flight to Amsterdam!
Enjoying it
David is looking forward to it all though, despite having to live out of a suitcase for the next few weeks: "It's an unusually busy period for me and it doesn't look like calming down much before Christmas!
I'm not complaining though, I feel privileged to be doing what I'm doing and at the moment I'm enjoying every minute."
