The 2009 Brass Band Summer School staged at Bromsgrove School and led by Richard Evans, was again a huge success, with over 100 attending this year from all over the world.
Innovations
The music tutorial staff included Alan Morrison, Brian Taylor, Owen Farr, David Childs, Nick Hudson, Steve Sykes and Alun Horgan and this year there were many new innovations such as a three-band Entertainment Contest adjudicated by Stan Lippeatt.
To celebrate 25 years of the Summer School, Paul Lovatt-Cooper was commissioned to compose a new work, 'The Home of Legends'.
Another innovation was a brass ensemble composition competition which was won by one of the course delegates, Judith Hayes, for her work 'Brazilian Festival'4BR

Fun
Judith told 4BR: "I was really pleased to have the opportunity to write an ensemble for these wonderful players. I wanted to write something that was fun to play and listen to, and everyone certainly seemed to have a lot of fun with it! Of course, I’m absolutely thrilled to have won."
Retired
Sadly, after 25 years Alan Morrison decided to retire as cornet tutor. Alan was presented with a silver tankard. His place will be taken by Foden's Mark Wilkinson.
Move
Following ten very successful years at Bromsgrove School, 2010 will see the Summer School move to the idyllic surroundings of Framlingham College in Suffolk.
Framlingham College, which boasts state-of-the-art facilities and overlooks Framlingham Castle, will host the event from August 8th to August 14th.
