Bolsover breaks record

There will be a fine entry of bands at Bolsover later this year — getting them all squeezed in has been the only problem!

A record entry of 22 bands will compete in the 4th Annual Bolsover Brass Entertainment Contest at the Post Mill Centre, South Normanton on Sunday 4th October.

Popular

Due to the popularity of the event, organisers Bolsover District Council have had to close the entry date before the scheduled date.

Bands from Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire have all entered and will perform a concert programme, which must include a featured soloist.

Due to the popularity of the event, organisers Bolsover District Council have had to close the entry date before the scheduled date4BR

Starts

It all starts at 9.00am with the unregistered section where there is two entries, followed by the 3rd/4th Section, where there is six entries, 1st/2nd Section with eight entries, and closing with the Championship Section Inter-County Challenge Invitation Contest with six entries from six counties.

Amazing

Carole Crompton, Arts Development Officer for Bolsover District Council told 4BR: "The response to this event has been amazing. Yet again we have broken our previous record for entries and had to cut off the closing date early because we simply cannot accommodate any more bands."

Carole added: "The level of entries and calibre of bands is of the highest standard and it promises to be another fantastic event. Due to the increasing demand for places, we are already looking at expanding this competition into a weekend festival next year."

Memorial trophy

In what is fine acknowledgment of the work of the late Graham Thomas, a trophy is being dedicated to his memory for all his hard work over the years, whilst a memorial concert is being planned for in 2010 with Thoresby Colliery Band.

Entry fee is £3 per person for the day with cash prizes totalling £2,200.

If any band wants to be put on a reserve list in case of any early withdrawals they should contact Carole Hirst, Arts Development Officer on 07979 240423.
