Composer Johan de Meij has received the honorary title 'Person of Distinction' from the Friends of the WMC (World Music Contest). The award was presented during the last weekend of the 2009 festival.

Most performed
In 2005 he was appointed Music Ambassador of the WMC and during this year’s competition, he was the most performed composer including at least 34 different performances of his works.
During the ceremony, Chairman Wim Goossens handed the composer a charter and a bronze artwork to the laureate, whilst his wife Dyan received a floral bouquet from secretary Piet van Oort.
