Cory adds world crown to their 2009 CV of contesting wins.

Cory

The Cory Band has added the World Championship title to its 2009 CV after a stunning victory in Kerkrade.

Domination

Cory’s domination of the banding scene continued on the weekend with their comprehensive victory to become World Champions in Kerkrade.

Stunning

Their performance of the set work, ‘Harrison’s Dream’ on the Friday night followed by a stunning 40 minute concert programme on the Saturday, gave the reigning Welsh and European champions their first ever World Championship title.

Conducted by Dr Robert Childs Cory took the honours from the band that ran them the closest at the recent European Championships in Ostend, Treize Etoiles from Switzerland, with Brass Band Buizingen in third.

Spectacular

Cory’s concert programme included David Childs on spectacular form with Peter Graham’s ‘Brillante’, a new fanfare called 'Fanfare with Echoes' from the pen of Philip Wilby, 'Mist of Afon Forest' by Graeth Wood and was rounded off with the own choice test piece selection, ‘From Ancient Times’ by Jan van der Roost.

Double triumph

In the First Division, there was a double triumph for conductor Bert Van Theinen as he directed Brass Band Heist to the title. Bert also played soprano for Cory to make it a weekend to remember.

Ratby Co-operative flew the flag for the UK with pride in coming runner up, whilst third place went to Musikgesellschaft Risch-Rotkreuz of Switzerland.

Home win

There was a home win in the Second Division as Brass Band Bacchus took the honours ahead of Netherlands rivals Brassband Schoonhoven and Veluwe Brass, whilst the Third Division championship was a three way domestic battle – won eventually by Brassband Hombeek.
