Marsden defends it title in style to pick up the top prizes at a sweltering Brighouse.

Marsden

The 10th Brighouse March and Hymn Tune spectacular drew a massive crowd on the weekend, all of whom enjoyed a non-stop six-hour feast of brass band music.

Defence

2006 and 2008 champions Marsden Silver defended their title successfully to pick up the £600 first prize, and Glyn Williams and his band will now receive an invitation to take part in EuroBrass Drachten next year with additional concerts in addition to the contest.

Great to hear

It was great to hear the rejuvenated Hammonds Saltaire Band, under conductor Morgan Griffith take the runners-up spot, and also principal cornet J.J.Lees winning the best cornet prize of a Yamaha Xeno cornet and the Stuart Broadbent Memorial Trophy.

There was a late change of adjudicator as David Hirst had car troubles on his way to the contest, so Malcolm Brownbill joined William Relton, with Colin Hardy, stepping in with the road march awards.

Stephen Thornton was the specialist awards adjudicator and Eric Williams (ex. Royal Marines) the deportment adjudicator.
