The prize money at the Brighouse March and Hymn Tune Contest, which takes place on the weekend of the 3rd July reaches £2,000 this year.

Return visit

In addition to the Brighouse & Rastrick Trophy, the winners will also receive an invitation to the 2010 Euro Brass Drachten contest in Holland, along with concerts in Friesland.

Solo contst

This year's event gets under way on Friday evening with a concert in the Central Methodist Church, whilst the Saturday sees the first Brighouse Youth Solo Championships, with sections for under 11, under 14 and under 17.

Roy Curran will adjudicate at the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Bailiff Bridge. There is plenty of prize money and trophies on offer, so get your entries in now.

Contest

The evening Gala Concert features Easington Colliery Band, with an appearance by Carl Hopkins, Channel 4’s 'Secret Millionaire'. Sunday sees the 10th Contest with a full entry of 26 bands in Brighouse Town Centre. The pre-draw makes sure the music flows non-stop starting at 1pm.

New trophies this year are donated in memory of two friends of the Brighouse Festival who passed away recently; Stuart Broadbent and Terry Nuttall.

Strong entry

A strong entry of bands this year sees the Championship represented by Marsden, Skelmanthorpe, Hammonds Saltaire and Easington with a good cross section of bands from Youth right through the sections.
