National Champion, Brighouse & Rastrick, has announced the appointment of Chris Robertson as their new principal euphonium.
The talented Scotsman is regarded as one of the banding movement's rising stars and graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with first class honours. He subsequently completed his postgraduate performance diploma in 2018.
No stranger to the solo euphonium role, he has already been a highly respected solo euphonium with Kirkintilloch, Wingates and Grimethorpe. A founding member of the multi-award winning A4 Brass Quartet, he is also a brass arranger and an accomplished singer.
Exceptional
Brighouse & Rastrick Chairman, Steve Cavanagh, told 4BR: "We're delighted to welcome Chris to the principal euphonium position.
He's an exceptional performer and his musicianship will be a valued addition to our team as we look forward to the defence of our National Championship title and beyond."
Outstanding
That opinion was also echoed by principal conductor Prof David King, when he spoke directly to 4BR: "Players such as Chris are both the current and future stars of the banding movement — a young player with such a mature musical outlook.
I'm delighted we have been able to bring him to the band — and I look forward to helping him develop even further as an outstanding performer."

In response Chris commented: "The opportunity to be part of the Brighouse & Rastrick experience and to continue growing musically as a performer is a wonderful for me.
I'm thrilled to be invited to become a team member of England's premier band and am excited at the prospect of taking this step in my musical career with such a world class band."
