there will be a great deal of interest in hearing whether or not the panel has been able to pick pieces that accurately reflect the actual playing standards in each of the sections this year4BR

Interest

After the welcomed success of 'Salute to Youth' as the Championship Section set work at the Regionals this year, there will be a great deal of interest in hearing how the First Section bands get to grips with Vinter’s 1965 National Finals test piece.

Commission

Alan Fernie's new work has been commissioned for the forthcoming Bernese Kantonal competition in Switzerland and there three movement work takes inspiration from facets of Scottish life.

View from above

Goff Richard’s 'Oceans' hails back to 1984 and was originally used as a top section test piece, before subsequently being used as the Second Section Area work of 1994.

Bruce Fraser's new work meaning, 'view from above' depicts three of the tallest buildings in North America – the CN Tower in Toronto, the Empire State Building in New York and the Sears Tower in Chicago.

Debate

After the debate created by the choices of the Music Panel in recent years, there will be a great deal of interest in hearing whether or not the panel has been able to pick pieces that accurately reflect the actual playing standards in each of the sections this year.
