Television celebrity Melanie Sykes joined in St John's Mossley Band's 75th Anniversary celebrations last weekend.

Melanie, who hails from Mossley hosted an evening of music that featured the band conducted by Stephen Corbett in fine form, joined by Black Dyke's Richard Marshall and the World Whistling Champion, David Morris.
Melanie is no stranger to brass bands, having compered the Gala Concert of the English National Championships, and last year was present in London for the National finals4BR

Her mum, Wendy told the Tameside Advertiser newspaper: "She doesn't play anymore, she used to play the baritone. We all played for around secen years in the same band."
Boddingtons
For the star who shot to fame as the face of Boddingtons Beer during the 1990s, being at the George Lawton Hall was a chance to get back to her roots, as she played baritone in her younger days and still has family connections within the band.
Having found out about the event from her father, Melanie went along and the evening proved to be a great success.
