Results from the 2009 Sydney Metropolitan Band Branch Solo and Ensemble contest.

he 2009 Sydney Metropolitan Band Branch Solo & Ensemble contest was held on the weekend of May 16 & 17 at the Bankstown Grammar School with a total of 134 entries from 17 bands.

Perpetual trophy winners at the contest were:

Harry Woods Memorial Award – Under 15 Novice Brass Instruments
Kyle Eardley, City of Wollongong Brass

Aub Owens Trophy – Under 15 Any Brass Instrument
Cameron Robertson, City of Holroyd

Ken Luzzi Memorial Award – Under 15 Slow Melody
Kyle Eardley, City of Wollongong Brass

H.J.Cartledge Trophy – Under 19 Any Brass Instrument
Chris Moran, Sutherland PCYC Concert Band

Sydney Metropolitan Band Branch Trophy – Under 19 Any Woodwind or Reed Instrument
Yeri Kim, Meriden School Concert Band

T.E.Gawn Trophy – Open Concerto
Brian McGuinness, Willoughby Band

Clifford Family Trophy – Australian Composition Open Solo
Jeffrey Ma, Willoughby Band

Cath Hagerty Memorial Award– Under 11 Any Instrument
Dean Hou, St. George Brass

Sydney Metropolitan Aggregate Shield- Most successful Band
Sutherland PCYC Concert Band

Sutherland PCYC Concert Band scored a total of 56 points in the aggregate shield competition.

City of Holroyd and Willoughby City finished in equal second place with 28 points.

Adjudicators for the events were James Brice and Andrew Snell.

Harlow Brass Band

February 27 • We are a friendly, non-contesting band who have the following vacancies:. Trombones, 2nd Horn, Back Row Cornets, Percussion. . We rehearse every Thursday in Harlow, 8-10pm and play at local events throughout the year.


Newmarket Town Band

February 27 • Newmarket Town Band is inviting applications for the post of 'Musical Director'. We are a non-contesting band who play to a high standard with regular bookings throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:30pm


Banks Brass Band

February 25 • It's not too late to join Banks Brass Band, a friendly non-contesting band near Southport. All players welcome particularly euphoniums, trombones and basses. Rehearsals: Mondays 8.00-9.30pm in the Hub@Banks community centre, PR9 8BL
