Premiere for Leicestershire

The Leicestershire Co-op Band recently unveiled a new premiere for brass and voices.

Leicester

Leicestershire Co-op Band and their guests Coalville & District and Loughborough Male Voice Choirs, recently played to a packed Ivanhoe College in Ashby de la Zouch.

Aeolia

Included in the programme was the first performance of 'Aeolia', a new piece of music written especially for the band by their tuned percussionist, Chris Tagg.

Chris is studying composition at Birmingham Conservatoire and was asked to compose a four minute piece for the Band’s CD, 'Simple Gifts', released earlier this year.

I really can’t believe the reaction it received. The audience loved it!MD, Graham Jacklin

Something different

MD, Graham Jacklin told 4BR: "I asked Chris to compose something different and we agreed on two rules. It had to appeal to youngsters and had to be palatable to our audience’s ears, bearing in mind their average age."

Contemporary

Graham added: "I suggested he included a rock rhythm section and what he produced is a contemporary piece, featuring electric piano, bass guitar and kit percussion, as well as full band.

"We recorded the track for our CD back in October, but we’ve waited until the CD was fully released before we performed it live for the first time. I really can’t believe the reaction it received. The audience loved it!"
