Results: Buxton Brass Festival

There was a fine turn out of bands in Buxton last weekend, where Enderby took the top honours.

Enderby

The worries of the credit crunch were forgotten about when 31 bands came to take part in the Buxton Brass Band Festival last weekend.

Sun shone

As the sun shone, players and their families were able to stroll through the gardens and enjoy an alfresco latte on the promenade, as they waited to play in the 46th Buxton Brass Band Festival.

In the unique setting of the Victorian Octagon Theatre, adjudicators Brett Baker and Kevin Wadsworth had a wealth of high class music making to judge.

Top honours

Enderby (Jonathan Mott) playing 'Partita' by Philip Sparke took the Championship Section honours, with their solo cornet Ian Dickman winning the prize for the best soloist.

Hoover (Bolton) conducted by Lee Dunkley were victorious in the Second Section, with Uppermill (Alan Widdup)commanding the top prize in the Third Section. Local band Hazel Grove (Nigel Beasley) were delighted winners of the eleven strong Fourth Section.

Gallant

In the Fourth Section, Marcus Jones, conductor of Whaley Bridge, came gallantly to the rescue of Denton Silver Band, stepping in at the last moment to take them to fourth place, after their regular conductor Graham Smith was involved in a road accident on the way to the contest.
