Paula's winning streak continues

Paula Russell claims the New Zealand Champion of Champions title.

The 2009 New Zealand Champion of Champions solo event was held this evening in the Municipal Theatre, Napier.

Thirteen solo champions performed in the play off event to determine the Champion of Champions at the 2009 New Zealand Brass Band Championships.

Cornet player, Paula Russell was announced winner in what was described by Chief Adjudicator Professor David King as a closely fought event.

The two other adjudicators were Selwyn Holmes and Kevin Dell.

Paula chose to play Concerto One (Brandt).

Second place went to Phil Johnston (Bb Bass) who played Variations on Ophicleide, and third to Andy Williams (tenor horn) playing Variations on Tyrolean Theme.

Earlier in the evening, the Junior Champion of Champions was won by Andrew Yorkstone on tenor trombone.
