The Empire strikes first

There has been an encouraging response to the PLC test piece from bands and potential audience for the English National.

English National

4BR has contacted some of the competing bands taking part at the forthcoming English National Championships to gauge their first responses to the test piece for the event, ‘Within Blue Empires’ by Paul Lovatt-Cooper.

Delighted

And it seems the bands have been delighted at what PLC has in store for them. One Band Secretary told 4BR: "It looks like a very difficult piece, but one we think we can do a good job on. It’s certainly interesting and different and will pose a challenge for certain."

Interest

The piece has aroused a great deal of interest around the banding world with English National organisers the BFBB reporting that there have been enquiries for tickets for the event from people as far away as New Zealand.

Hear the piece

Derek Atkinson told 4BR: "Since the announcement of the line up of bands and the test piece we have been fielding enquiries nearly every day. People want to make sure they get the chance to hear the very best bands in England paying a great test piece."
