Brass in Concert organisers have announced a boost for the 2009 Brass in Concert Festival, with the news that Black Dyke is to top the bill of the World of Brass in Concert gala opener.
Three into two
In a change to the previously established format, which featured two bands, Paul Beere has confirmed that three will feature this year, with a first half shared between reigning champion, Cory, and the US Open Champion, Fountain City Brass.
The second half of the concert will be entirely given by Black Dyke conducted by MD, Dr. Nicholas Childs.

Delight
Paul Beere publically stated his delight in a statement to British Bandsman newspaper: "We all know what a massive draw Black Dyke is and it has a terrific following in the north-east of England, which we expect to be out in full force. We’ve been in discussion with the band over a possible appearance for a couple of years, and its agreement is another tremendous boost for an event which seems to strengthen each year."
Leave a mark
Dr. Nicholas Childs commented: "The Sage Gateshead is a world-class venue, and the band is delighted to have been able to accept this invitation from the Brass in Concert organisers. Although Black Dyke won’t be appearing in the Sunday contest, we will aim to leave our mark on the weekend by presenting a varied and entertaining contribution to the gala concert."
The full band line-up for the Brass in Concert Championship has not yet been finalised, but details will be announced in due course.
