Rushen set for 60th birthday

The Rushen Band on the Isle of Man are getting ready to celebrate their 60th birthday.

2009 sees the 60th anniversary for Rushen Silver Band in the Isle of Man.

Legacy

The band changed their name from Surby Silver to Rushen Silver in 1949 to receive a legacy that turned out to be for the princely sum of £19 17s 6d. In the 60 years since, Rushen Band has become an important organisation within the community of the south of the Island.

CD recording

To mark the anniversary the Band are planning various events, including recording a CD for the first time at the end of March.

Later in the year a tour is planned to Yorkshire, and the year will culminate in a Celebration Concert in October with Richard Evans at the helm4BR

It is hoped that the CD will be available during by June/July and will be able to be purchased at all of the Band’s summer concerts from then on.
