The Fairey Band has announced the appointment of Nick Walkley as their new soprano player.

Return

Nick, whose father Steve enjoyed a distinguished career as Fairey’s solo trombone in the 1980s, returns to the band with whom he won the National Championships in 2002.

Nick was also Fairey’s Principal Cornet between 2004-05, whilst in his 4 years away from the band has played Principal Cornet with the Leyland, but also cut his soprano playing teeth with a stint at YBS Band under Professor David King.

Nick’s appointment completes what is now a strong cornet line-up at Faireys, including Laura Hirst on Principal Cornet, Mike Eccles on Assistant Principal and Brian Taylor on RepianoFairey Band

Strong line up

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Nick’s appointment completes what is now a strong cornet line-up at Faireys, including Laura Hirst on Principal Cornet, Mike Eccles on Assistant Principal and Brian Taylor on Repiano."

Nick will make his first appearance in his new position when Faireys appear at the RNCM Festival Brass.
