Doss houses in Nationals

Thomas Doss is to write the the top section test pieces to be used in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway as well the 2011 European.

The talented Austrian composer Thomas Doss will write the test piece to be used for the Championship Section of the National Championships of the Netherlands, Switzerland in 2009 and Norway in 2010.

New work

The new work,as yet unnamed, will provide the Swiss and Dutch top section bands with the musical hurdle to overcome to qualify for the European Championships in Linz in Austria in 2010, the native county of the composer.

Both the National Championships and EBBA are eager in finding new musical material. So we are extremely happy that both our Swiss and Norwegian collegues have been so enthusiastic in supporting this planJappie Dijkstra

European Championship composer

It has also been announced that for that championship, Thomas will also be the composer of the set piece. In Norway the new work will be used to obtain qualification for the 2011 Europeans in Montreux.

New repertoire

According to initiator Jappie Dijkstra, the new composition for the three national championships is a perfect example of the European brass band movement’s effort to develop new repertoire.

"Both the National Championships and the European Brass Band Association (EBBA) are eager in finding new musical material. So we are extremely happy that both our Swiss and Norwegian collegues have been so enthusiastic in supporting this plan."

Premiere

The new top work will be premiered during the Dutch National Championships on November 28th and can be heard one day later in Switzerland. The Elite Norwegian bands will perform the composition in February 2010.
