Following the Newstead Brass organisations decision that their Newstead Abbey Band was not sustainable in its present format, the Hucknall and Linby (Mining Community) Band has been formed.
First rehearsal
All but one of the present Abbey Brass players has moved to the new set up in Hucknall in Nottinghamshire, and thanks to local businessman Richard Darrington, the band held their first rehearsal on 5th December.
The band are hoping to pick up from where they, as Newstead Abbey Brass left off, and will continue to compete in the Third Section, with their debut at the Midlands Area.

No stranger
The band will be lead by Paul Whyley, who is no stranger to the public of Hucknall — being born and bred there and being principal Eb Bass for Newstead Brass for 34 Years.
Mining heritage
Speaking of the formation of a band back in Hucknall and Linby, Band President Ernie Whyley told 4BR: "It’s great to see a band based back in Hucknall and also one that reconnects with its mining heritage and is proud to do so. Hopefully we can continue our upward climb."
