Scottish Champions, Whitburn, has been dishing out its own awards.

Player of the Year

Chris Bradley, the band’s principal cornet player, was named the 2008 Player of the Year at the band’s New Year party.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Chris has been in fantastic form all year and has led his section, and the rest of the band, with some memorable performances on both the contest and concert stage. Chris also achieved a personal milestone in 2008 when he picked up the coveted Terris medal for the Best Cornet player at the Scottish Championships."

Bandsman of the Year

Scott Walker, meanwhile, has been named the Bandsman of the Year.

The spokespeson added: "Scott was recognised for his sterling work with Whitburn Junior Band, which has grown in numbers and stature since its inception two years ago. Scott has also performed admirably in the past year, leading the back row cornet section."
