Percussionist Dave Danford will be heading south straight after Christmas for a three-day course and concert with Cornwall Youth Brass Band.
Guest
As reported on 4BR, Dave is joining the band as guest soloist for their annual Christmas course which takes place in Truro from Saturday 27th to Tuesday 30th December. The repertoire includes a new work by Cornish composer Simon Dobson and new music is also the focus of the pieces Dave will be performing with the band.
As I do with all of my brass band solo dates I made a conscious decision to choose repertoire that the young musicians won’t have performed beforeDave Danford
Conscious decision
"As I do with all of my brass band solo dates I made a conscious decision to choose repertoire that the young musicians won’t have performed before," Dave explained to 4BR
"It would be only too easy to churn out the same xylophone and marimba solos that everybody else seems to play but I’ve always tried to create my own unique solo repertoire."
Repertoire
Dave’s solo repertoire for the course includes his own arrangement of 'La Danza' by Rossini and the final movement from Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba. Completing the programme is a movement from 'Nightlife', a new work commissioned from Welsh composer Gareth Wood in early 2008 and a version of 'Ghanaia' by Matthias Schmitt, scored for solo marimba and three percussionists.
