Following the resignation of Jason Mears earlier in the year, Darebin City Brass — Preston Band has appointed Danny Dielkens as their new Musical Director.

Experience

Originating from Belgium, Danny is a renowned trumpet, cornet and soprano cornet player. Danny received his Masters Degree on Trumpet from the Royal Conservatory Brussels in Belgium as well as also gaining a degree in composing from the same Conservatory.

Danny has had extensive work experience as a trumpet player, playing for many major musicals and orchestras throughout Belgium. As well as his playing experience, Danny gained extensive conducting experience with concert bands throughout Belgium.

In Oz

Within the brass band realm, Danny was a playing member of Midden Brabant and then Willebroek up until his move to Australia.

Coming to Australia in 2004, Danny was first based in South Australia, playing trumpet for the Adelaide base of the Australian Army Band. During his time in Adelaide he also played cornet and soprano for Kensington and Norwood.

Danny also worked as a trumpet teacher and musical conductor to various secondary schools in Adelaide. In 2007, Danny won the South Australian Champion of Champions on soprano.

After three years in Adelaide, Danny was then posted to Melbourne with the Australian Army Band in 2007 and played soprano cornet for Kew Band Melbourne. Over this time, Danny has become recognised as a talented and prolific musician within Melbourne.

Sydney 2009

Impressed with his talent and energy, Darebin City Brass are excited to announce Danny as their new conductor for the A grade band and are looking forward to Danny taking them to the National Championships in Sydney in 2009.
