Michelmersh magic at Torquay

Melvin White weaved his magic wand for Michelmersh at the recent SWBBA Contest at Torquay.

An impressive performance in Torquay at the 62nd Annual Championships of the South West Brass Band Association, saw the Michelmersh Silver Band take first place in its last performance in the Second Section before promotion to the First Section for 2009.

Not content with winning first prize, percussionist Henry Boler also won best instrumentalist out of 167 players playing in the contest for his performance on timpani.

The Band performed the new extended arrangement of 'Variations on Laudate Dominum' by Edward Gregson under the baton of Melvin White.

Melvin White commented to 4BBR: "I am delighted to be part of such a super team and be able to direct such a convincing performance. The next challenge will be even greater but the Band seemed prepared for the hard work that lies ahead."
