Trombone star Stephen Sykes recently performed the world premiere of a new work for trombone and piano written especially for him by composer Rodney Newton.
Rodney wrote ‘ Flourish’ for Stephen, which he performed at the recent British Trombone Society’s day at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset.

Other titles that Stephen performed in his recital were 'Basta' by Folke Rabbe, the 'Reiche Concerto for Trombone' and 'Brasilia' by Robin Dewhurst.
Following a short break, Stephen also demonstrated the more relaxed side of the trombone with three jazz items by Jiggs Whigham.
Later in the afternoon the delegates were treated to a short concert from Bones Apart before an end of day massed trombone choir led by organiser and BTS president Bob Hughes.
