Fodens are coming to the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath on Thursday 4th December to perform with Bath Philharmonia orchestra in a unique collaboration of fantastic music.
Quite a stir
The event is already creating quite a stir amongst brass band and orchestral fanatics alike. The concert combines both ensembles in a unique performance of Janacek’s masterpiece Sinfonietta.
Looks back
Inspired by hearing military Brass Bands in his native Czech homeland, Janacek composed the Sinfonietta in 1926 for orchestra and massed brass. Traditionally performed by purely orchestral musicians, this performance looks back to the composer’s original inspiration.
The concert is in aid of the Forever Friends Appeal for a brand new Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal United Hospital, BathOrganisers
Massive
Music Director of Bath Phil Jason Thornton said "…this piece is massive and will take the roof off The Forum. I cannot wait to hear the sound produced on stage by ninety musicians from such radically different traditions. It will be thrilling, awe inspiring and certainly unique."
Three parts
The concert falls into three parts, opening with Bath Phil in Beethoven’s witty Eighth Symphony, followed by Foden’s classic brass band repertoire including a specially commissioned jazz-based tuba concerto and Wilby’s virtuosic Paganini Variations.
The concert concludes with the Sinfonietta. The concert is in aid of the Forever Friends Appeal for a brand new Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
