Among the music to be performed at the Bon Accord Silver Band's forthcoming Annual Concert, will be the first public performance of the work "Vengeance" by the young Welshman Cai Isfryn.
Cai, 20, told 4BR: "I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to play for Black Dyke nearly a year ago. Composing had always been a hobby of mine, but I was able to receive composing lessons from Professor Wilby, which led to my ideas becoming a reality and the formation of my first piece,' Vengeance'."
Inspiration
Inspiration for the piece comes from a Welsh myth of Branwen and her half brother, Bendigeidfran. Cai added: "I hope to write a series of compositions for brass band, which will all tie together to form a complete finished work entitled 'Branwen'."
Before moving to Manchester for his studies at the Royal Nothern College of Music, Cai played with Seindorf Beaumaris Band.
I'm most impressed by Cai's first composition, and I'm looking forward to see how he will progress in this field in years to comeMorten E Hansen
Norwegian
The Bon Accord Band will be conducted in the concert by the Norwegian Morten E. Hansen, who also have been a regular guest in the Welsh band room, working with Beaumaris on several occasions.
When Cai was helping Morten out at the Grenland International Brass Festival in April, Cai talked about his new project, and later sent Morten the score for feedback.
Impressed
Morten told 4BR: "I'm most impressed by Cai's first composition, and I'm looking forward to see how he will progress in this field in years to come. I expect Vengeance very soon to be a regular item in bands concert programmes and even at contest stages as well."
