The Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band is backing some of the country’s major leukaemia charities in a bid to raise funds and awareness of the disease and the work being done to combat it.
The band will be performing a Musical Extravaganza in October in Chesterfield and hope to raise over £7000 for Leukaemia Research, The Anthony Nolan Trust and Hope for Life Ministries.
Inspired
The concert has been inspired by the work of Adrian Sudbury who sadly passed away on 19th August aged just 27. Adrian, who was also self-named Baldy and an award-winning journalist, had been terminally ill, being the only documented person in the world to suffer from two forms of leukaemia concurrently.

Drive and determination
Despite this, Adrian’s raised the profile of the fight against leukaemia, with his drive to increase the awareness of leukaemia and bone marrow donation.
The band has chosen to continue the work through close family links as Adrian’s sister Carrie is the band’s solo trombone player and her fiancé is the band’s conductor Ian Knapton.
