The British Federation of Brass Bands (BFBB) has been furthering the resurgence of the Cumbrian Brass Band Association (CBBA), facilitating a recent meeting which unanimously decided that there was enough interest from bands and individuals to sustain the CBBA.
Support
The CBBA is keen to hold some sort of festival for bands in 2009 at one of the popular Lake District venues and support has been generously offered by the South Lakeland District Council and Windermere Town Council.
The BFBB has been assisting the association to reform and over the past 18 months I have been visiting bands in the countyPhilip Watson
Issues addressed
Other issues which are being addressed by the CBBA also include tuition opportunities for young players, relationships between bands, schools and local authorities, contests, workshops and master classes and the possible resurrection of the former Cumbria Youth Brass Band.
Asking for support
BFBB’s Development Officer Philip Watson told 4BR: "The BFBB has been assisting the association to reform and over the past 18 months I have been visiting bands in the county. I will also be writing to the bands asking for support of CBBA, its meetings, ideas and opportunities."
