Banding together
His module entitled ‘Banding together: The History, Dissemination, Development and Social Significance of World Banding’ is closely linked to his PhD thesis called ‘“Banding Together”: Power, Identity and Interaction within the Concert and Contest Performance Contexts of the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band’ and his continuing interest in the global band phenomena.

Conferences
Recently, Richard has also been preparing for two prestigious conferences which are rapidly approaching.
He will be delivering a paper at the conference “Music and the Idea of the North” which will be hosted by Leeds University in early September.
In addition Richard will also be delivering a paper with other band scholars further afield at the Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut this being in association with the 53rd annual conference for The Society for Ethnomusicology in October.
As if that wasn’t enough, Richard is also looking forward to a busy contesting season with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band!
