Death of Wayne McCarthy

The death of the former cornet player has been announced.

The death has been announced of one of the brass band world's most colourful and flambouyant characters, Wayne McCarthy on 20th July aged 57.

Wayne had a long and distinguised career, playing at the highest level as a well respected Prinicpal Cornet as well as winning many titles and accolades.

Bob said that Wayne's sound '...was so sweet and pure, his intuitive musicianship and sense of style was a model for all to aspire to'4BR

Distinguished

Latterly Wayne worked tirelesely training many youngsters in Devon and Cornwall. Bob Childs and Roger Webster were amongst many eminent and distinguished people who have sent messages to his partner, family and friends.

Bob said that Wayne's sound '...was so sweet and pure, his intuitive musicianship and sense of style was a model for all to aspire to'
and his brother Nick recently told a friend that Wayne was "...the very finest cornet player one could meet — a tremendous technician and consistently excellent.'

Tribute

Grimethorpe Colliery Band paid tribute to Wayne at a recent concert in Plymouth and many bands were represented at his funeral service.

Wayne's partner and family would like to trace any recordings or articles there may be of Wayne's playing and if you could help please email janeosborne58@btinternet.com.
