The death has been announced of one of the brass band world's most colourful and flambouyant characters, Wayne McCarthy on 20th July aged 57.
Wayne had a long and distinguised career, playing at the highest level as a well respected Prinicpal Cornet as well as winning many titles and accolades.

Distinguished
Latterly Wayne worked tirelesely training many youngsters in Devon and Cornwall. Bob Childs and Roger Webster were amongst many eminent and distinguished people who have sent messages to his partner, family and friends.
Bob said that Wayne's sound '...was so sweet and pure, his intuitive musicianship and sense of style was a model for all to aspire to'
and his brother Nick recently told a friend that Wayne was "...the very finest cornet player one could meet — a tremendous technician and consistently excellent.'
Tribute
Grimethorpe Colliery Band paid tribute to Wayne at a recent concert in Plymouth and many bands were represented at his funeral service.
