The BBC's Young Musician of the Year, Peter Moore is still pinching himself after taking part in the Handover Party that took place in The Mall on Sunday as London celebrated being declared the host City for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Once in a life time
The once in a life time celebratory party featured numerous musical names including McFly and Katherine Jenkins whilst UK medalists Bradley Wiggins and Phillips Idowu were present along with eight times Gold Medal winner, Michael Phelps.
During the live concert in front of over 40,000 people and millions of television viewers, Peter was interviewed by Claudia Winkleman who was co-host of the event.
Proud
Rubbing shoulders with so many great sports stars and pop stars was a memorable experience and one which Pete will cherish for many yearsGrenville Moore
Peter then took part in the final song, 'Proud', by Heather Small, where he was required to sit with the house band with such greats as Derek Watkins and play a few stand-up solos. The band's MD was Steve Sidwell who has made a great name for himself with many fine artists such Robbie Williams.
Although anxious about the live interview Peter coped with the questions admirably and thouroughly enjoyed playing with a very supportive band.
The invite
So just how did the invitation to participate in the party come about? Peter's father, Grenville told 4BR 'Pete was asked to appear on the Olympic handover event shortly after winning the BBC Young Musician competition. With 2012 having a huge emphasis on youth and Pete being the youngest winner it was thought appropriate that he take part. Rubbing shoulders with so many great sports stars and pop stars was a memorable experience and one which Pete will cherish for many years'.
Proms appearance
Peter is also looking forward to participating one of the musical events which celebrate the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 13th September.
Proms In The Park is the regional equivalent of the Last Night of the Proms and it receives coverage on BBC Television and Radio 2. Peter is appearing in Belfast with the Ulster Orchestra where he will play 'Arrows of Time' and 'If'.
Whilst the event in Belfast will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Ulster and via the red interactive button on BBC television, plans are in place for part of the concert to be beamed into the Albert Hall but it is still unclear whether this will include the trombonist or not.
Excited
Unsurprisingly, Peter is very excited about the opportunity to be featured as a soloist with a professional orchestra once again and pleased by the interest shown by the country of his birth.
