17 year old trombonist Stephen Sykes has had a busy few weeks performing as a soloist.
Busy time
His summer started with an invitation from Brett Baker to perform at the British Trombone Society’s recent day in Bury, and as a result he has been invited by Bob Hughes (bass trombone London Symphony Orchestra) to perform at a BTS event later in the year in Wells.
Whilst with the Swedish Youth Brass Band, Stephen also gave an evening recital where he performed a variety of musical styles to a very appreciative audience4BR
First guest
Stephen then travelled to Sweden where he was the first guest soloist to perform with the Swedish National Youth Brass Band which was formed at the beginning of 2008.
Stephen performed 'Basta' by Folke Rab, an unaccompanied solo which was originally written for Christian Lindberg, and Robin Dewhurst’s 'Brasilia' accompanied by the band and conducted by Steve Sykes senior.
Appreciative
Whilst with the Swedish Youth Brass Band, Stephen also gave an evening recital where he performed a variety of musical styles to a very appreciative audience.
Stephen is looking forward to more solo performances in the future with an invitation to perform in Norway at the beginning of 2009.
