The Melbourne International Festival of Brass (MIFB) line-up includes the usual constellation of brass stars from overseas but the main interest for brass banders may be the debut performance of National Australia Brass (NAB).
With an increasing emphasis on developing educational projects in Australia, Professor David King has formed NAB, an exciting initiative involving an ensemble of 40 players from around Australia.
Australian Composers feature
The repertoire for the NAB inaugural concert on Friday October 3rd will include performances of major works by Australian composers including Dr Brenton Broadstock’s "Sunburnt Land" and Barry McKimm’s "Ash Wednesday".
New Commission
The programme will also feature two works by European composers, Johan de Meij’s "Extreme Makeover" and the world premiere of a new work for brass and percussion by Swiss composer Ludovic Neurohr — "Psyche", commissioned by National Australia Brass for the Melbourne International Festival of Brass 2008.
Jens Lindemann
The band will also accompany Jens Lindemann, once the lead trumpet of Canadian Brass but now renowned as one of the world’s finest concert soloists.
It’s a night not to be missed – Friday October the 3rd, 8pm, Melba Hall at Melbourne University – why would you be anywhere else?
