The Feds fight back

The South Brisbane Federal band put its best foot forward despite some difficult times of late.

South Brisbane Federal

The South Brisbane Federal band has struggled in recent times with several changes of conductor in quick succession.

The lack of a quality conductor currently plagues this one time doyen of Brisbane Banding.

The band which has an enviable history throughout Australia is looking to rebuild its ranks and attract a quality Musical Director to take the band into and through the next 5 to 10 years.

Conductors Unite

Russell Gray and some of Brisbane’s best conductors including Barrie Gott, Phil Davis, Edward Kennedy, Howard Taylor just to name a few have rallied to give assistance to the South Brisbane Federal Band during its search for a conductor.

Russell Gray, who recently completed a Masters Degree in Orchestral Conducting on top of his fine credential in Brass Bands throughout Europe, is again back in Brisbane and has agreed to assist the South Brisbane Federal Band achieve its goals by heading the band at a special “recruitment concert”.

Russell and the band are hoping that any brass players in the community with some spare time, looking for somewhere to enjoy honing their playing skills and to generally be part of a very social musical ensemble will attend the concert and be part of the remaking of the South Brisbane Federal band.

More details to come.
