Steven Mead’s ‘Euphonium Virtuoso’ CD, has been awarded the ‘Roger Bobo Award for Recording Excellence’ at the recent International Tuba Euphonium Conference held in Cincinnati.
This is the second time in succession by Steve has won this award, the last one being in 2006, with the CD ‘Locomotion’.

Commenting on the award Steve told 4BR: "I’m delighted to get this award again, as there were many superb recordings short-listed in this category, including CDs by Adam Fry (with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra) and Benjamin Pierce."
Steve added: "This particular CD ‘Euphonium Virtuoso’ is one of my favourites, and again I pay tribute to Luc Vertommen and Brassband Buizingen from Belgium who did such a wonderful job accompanying me."

Other winners in different categories this year were the Danish tuba player Oystein Baadsvik and the Portuguese tubist Sergio Carolina.
Meanwhile Steve’s latest release, the double CD, ‘Audacious’ (BOCC110) with the great Japanese pianist Tomoko Sawano was highly popular with the many low brass enthusiasts at the festival. The whole ITEC was declared great success with over 750 delegates attending the six day festival.
