Sherborne Town Band are launching their new Youth Education Scheme for aspiring young brass players by inviting parents and children to an open day at their bandroom from 10am till 1pm on Saturday 13th September, when there will be a chance to hear the Town Band, try the instruments and enrol on the scheme.
The course will begin on the following Thursday 18th September. The band has also announced that David Bertie BA, FTCL has agreed to be the Director of the Scheme.
Pioneer
David trained as a musician at Kneller Hall and since his time in the army David has developed a career as a trumpet player working with, among others, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Mantovani Orchestra.
David is also a full time brass teacher with Somerset Education Service, where he has been a pioneer of the very successful “wider opportunities” scheme that introduces children to instrumental music making.

The new Youth Scheme will have a Starter Brass group which will be using modern methods with interactive media. This group will also be able to gain Associated Board Medals in the early stages.
The Scheme will be supported by a liaison group of highly qualified teachers and musicians, headed by Paul Cosh FGSM, Professor and senior lecturer at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
