Morecambe tops

They came from far and wide — but Morecambe still came out on top.

The Morecambe Band competed for the first time in the Kirkby Lonsdale competition last weekend.

Resplendent

Having been drawn to play no 2, the band (resplendent in their new red uniforms) marched down the main street to the town square to be greeted by a large and enthusiastic crowd sitting in bright sunshine around the concert platform.

When you consider the fact that the 10 bands travelled from far and wide to take part in the competition, we did exceptionally well to top the list!

Top prize

Each band played a 20 minute programme to include a march, hymn and own choice piece. Having heard the 10 bands the adjudicator Derek Broadbent judged Morecambe's programme to be the winners on the day.

Exceptional

Musical Director Andrew Warriner was delighted and told 4BR: "When you consider the fact that the 10 bands travelled from far and wide to take part in the competition, we did exceptionally well to top the list!"
