Age of King & Porter at Friary

Andrew Porter and Chris King are the men spearheading Friary Guildfords assault on the prizes from now on.

Friary Guildford

Friary Guildford has announced the appointment of Andrew Porter as their principal euphonium and Bandmaster.

Over the past 18 months Andy has played with Friary on a number of occasions, most recently helping the band claim their record equalling sixth SCABA Entertainment contest title in May.

Talent

The talented euphonium player studied with Steven Mead at the RNCM and is currently the British Army Brass Band's Principal Euphonium, as well as being considered one of the banding movement's most up and coming conductors.

Andy will assist Friary's Musical Director, Chris King, to further improve on the band's recent successes and propel them back into the Championship sectionFriary Guildford Band

New role

In his new role as Bandmaster, Andy will assist Friary's Musical Director, Chris King, to further improve on the band's recent successes and propel them back into the Championship section.

Andy follows in the footsteps of Chris, who is now Bandmaster of the Grenadier Guards Band, by being selected to attend the prestigious Army Bandmasters Course at Kneller Hall.

Additions

Meanwhile, Lauren Cave joins on front row cornet after helping the band out on a number of the cornet positions over the past year, whilst Alan Westwood, makes his permanent move on BBb bass after previously depping for the band at contests in Blackpool and Crawley.

Friary are now holding auditions for the position of front row cornet to complete a strong line-up that in September will compete at the Wychavon Festival of Brass and travel to Ettlingen in Germany.
