Rising Stars
Friday night will feature the HSSB's three Youth Bands (under the leadership of Anita McAlister and Darryl Eaton). Special guests for this event are Impact Brass under the leadership of Ken Bailey.
Once again, the audience will vote for the winner of the Hannaford Youth Band's Annual Solo Competition. The three finalists of the solo competition are: Eric Probst (tuba), Alastair Chaplin (trumpet), and Brendan Rawlins (euphonium). Also performing is the winner of High School level Kohei Kamikawa(euphonium).
Community Showcase
Saturday will showcase performances by 11 bands, including: the Whitby Brass Band, the Orillia Silver Band, the Metropolitan Silver Band, the Kincardine Brass Band, the Weston Silver Band, Intrada Brass of Oakville, the Maple Leaf Brass Band of Ottawa, the Buffalo Silver Band, the London Citadel Band, All-Stars Brass & Percussion and All-Stars Junior Varsity from Columbus, Ohio.
The ensembles will perform a wide variety of repertoire. Some may even compete for the honour of receiving The Hannaford Cup, our annual award for excellence for best performance of this year's set march, Knights Templar.
Principals on Display
The festival concludes Sunday with it’s Grand Finale. Toronto Symphony Orchestra Principal Brass Players, Andrew McCandless, trumpet, Neil Deland, horn and Gord Wolfe, trombone will premiere Gary Kulesha's Triple Concerto commissioned by the HSSB with the generous support of the Ontario Arts Council.
All events take place at the Jane Mallett Theatre at St. Lawrence Centre, in Toronto, Ontario.
