The week leading up to the London & Southern Counties Area contest was a momentous week for Thundersley Brass Band 3rd cornet player George Adey, as he reached his 90th birthday!
New York Staff Band
George learned to play the cornet in the Salvation Army as a youngster and during military service in the USA he was a valued member of the New York Staff Band.
Returning home, George played soprano cornet and solo horn for many years with Romford Silver Band- then a championship section band.
20 year break
After over 20 years without playing George came into contact with Thundersley Brass Band at a village fete in 2007, and was invited to come along for a blow. He now fills the fifth 3rd cornet chair!
George once again thanked the band for their valuable friendship, and for giving him a new lease of life! He is now rehearsing the cornet solo 'The Holy City' with the band, for inclusion at forthcoming events!4BR
